The "55 hp" headline, decoded

Here Tarform is honest: 55 hp is the real number, and at $24,000 it is a far more reasonable match than on the Founder. Convert it to the unit everyone feels.

55 hp with instant electric torque and a roughly 3.8-second 0–60 mph is genuinely brisk and well-matched to a street cafe racer. It is adequate rather than exciting for the price tier, but the gap between performance and sticker is far smaller here than on the $42,000 Founder.

The honest framing: Tarform does not over-claim the power, and on the Racer the value math is simply more defensible. You are still buying for the design and materials, but you are paying a saner premium for them.

Where "up to 120 miles" comes from

The claim is a best-case number you will rarely reproduce on a fast street bike. Here is the arithmetic, with one honest gap.

Step 1, energy in the tank. Tarform publishes a 10 kWh pack (Sony cells) but does not publish the nominal voltage and amp-hour split, so we cannot show the exact V × Ah. We use the published kWh and say so rather than inventing the breakdown.

Step 2, how much you spend per mile. Consumption climbs sharply with speed because drag rises with the square of speed. A 120 mph cafe racer ridden at pace spends far more per mile than the gentle figure behind the brochure number.

Top speed: a number to verify

Tarform's spec lists a 120 mph top speed, but some press coverage of the Luna has cited figures closer to 90 to 95 mph. This is exactly the kind of claim we flag rather than smooth over.

We carry the manufacturer's 120 mph as a claim, note that independent reporting has cited lower numbers, and recommend confirming the figure for the exact configuration before relying on it. Either way, holding top speed is what collapses the range above: the faster you go, the more Wh per mile you burn.

Charge time is just battery size ÷ charger power. Tarform quotes a fast figure, with one detail the headline often drops.

The honest reading: it is a quick charge to 80% by the maker's own number, and the last 20% (taper) takes proportionally longer. Confirm the charger spec and connector with Tarform before relying on the time.

Honest reason: a low-volume boutique bike has no public resale data, no fleet service-cost history, and widely variable insurance, so any 5-year total would be a guess dressed up as a figure. We never guess. What we can stand behind today is the $24,000 sticker, an out-the-door near $27,000 to $27,500, and near-free charging.

It still loses points for boutique support, parts, and unproven reliability, but the lower price makes the whole proposition more defensible than the Founder. If you are buying a Tarform with your head as well as your heart, it is this one.
