The "6.7 kW" headline, decoded

Peak watts make a great headline; they are not what carries you through a commute for more than a few seconds. River quotes both numbers, so read which is which.

The Indie's motor is rated at 4.49 kW continuous with a brief 6.7 kW peak. Listings then print the bigger number. Convert to the unit everyone feels:

The honest story: a 26 Nm torque figure and instant electric pull make the Indie feel lively off the line in city traffic, which is what a commuter needs. This is not a fast machine, and it does not try to be one. The number that matters for daily use is the continuous 4.49 kW.

Where "up to 101 miles" comes from

The headline gap. The IDC claim is not a lie, it is a lab-cycle ceiling you will rarely reproduce in real city traffic. Here is the arithmetic.

Step 1, real energy in the tank. Range starts with how much energy the battery holds. River publishes a 4 kWh (4,000 Wh nominal) pack; the exact voltage and amp-hour split is not consistently published, so we work from the kWh figure rather than invent a V×Ah pair.

Step 2, how much you spend per mile. Consumption (Wh/mi) is the whole game, and it rises with speed and stop-start traffic. Gentle Eco riding sips less; Ride and Rush modes spend more.

The takeaway: IDC is a lab cycle, treat it as a ceiling, not a promise. Owners and reviewers report closer to 115-120 km in Eco and 80-90 km when ridden harder. The ~78 mi (about 125 km) mixed figure is an honest middle, and still plenty for daily city duty. Plan around 78 miles, not 101.

Top speed is honest, and that sets the limit

~56 mph (90 km/h) claimed, and that is genuinely the ceiling. It is honest, but it also defines what this scooter is for.

At 56 mph the Indie is doing what a city scooter should: keeping up with urban traffic, not chasing a highway. Held near that ceiling, consumption climbs and the range above shrinks toward the Rush-mode figure, because drag rises with the square of speed.

So the "56 mph" and the "101 miles" on the same spec sheet are not meant to coexist: you get one or the other. For a commuter that is fine, ride it gently and the range is generous; ride it flat-out and it is still a perfectly usable city number.

Charging: read the charger, not the adjective

Charge time is just battery size ÷ charger power, so a vague "fast" claim means nothing without the charger's wattage.

River quotes a full charge in roughly 5 to 6 hours on the onboard charger, with about 80% reached in around five hours; our formula lands in the same area, which implies an onboard charger near 800 W. The battery is fixed, not removable, so you charge the whole scooter, plan for an overnight or a long daytime top-up rather than a quick swap. There is no DC fast charging.
