The "23 hp" headline, decoded

Peak watts make a great headline; they are not what carries you for more than a few seconds. LAND publishes both numbers, so the honest move is to read which is which.

The District runs a motor rated at about 11.5 kW nominal (continuous) with up to 17 kW peak, which the listing converts to the ~23 hp headline. Convert both to the unit everyone feels:

Why this is honest enough: at 196 lb the District is light, so even ~15 hp continuous feels lively, and the high stated torque (the listing quotes a large wheel torque figure typical of geared hub-style e-motos) gives strong off-the-line punch. The takeaway is simply to read the nominal number for cruising and treat the ~23 hp peak as the launch figure, not a sustained one.

Where "75 miles" comes from, and why packs are the story

The headline gap is the largest on this page, and it is structural: range is entirely pack-dependent. Here is the arithmetic, honestly.

Step 1, real energy in the tank. The CORE system comes in roughly 1.8, 3.6 and 4.8 kWh sizes (a larger ~5.5 kWh option exists too). The 75-mile claim is for the largest pack ridden gently. We anchor on the published kWh rather than inventing a voltage and amp-hour split (the platform is ~72V nominal, but LAND quotes packs in kWh).

Step 2, how much you spend per mile. Consumption (Wh/mi) is the whole game, and it climbs steeply with speed because drag rises with the square of speed. Gentle riding sips; hard or highway use on a light moto costs a lot per mile.

The takeaway: the 75-mile figure is the biggest pack ridden gently. Hard or highway riding can drop real range toward 20 miles per pack. LAND's answer is the swap system: buy spare CORE packs and hot-swap rather than wait to recharge. Budget for that honestly, because usable range is really a question of how many packs you own.

Top speed vs. range, the same trade-off

~75 mph is mode-dependent and street-legal. Using it is exactly what collapses the range above, on a light bike the penalty is steep.

Held near the top, a 196 lb bike still has to fight aerodynamic drag, so consumption spikes and the per-pack range falls toward the 20-mile end. Run the range formula at a sustained highway pace:

So the "75 mph" and the "75 miles" on the same spec sheet are mutually exclusive: ride for range or ride for speed, not both. On the District that gap is unusually wide, which is exactly why the swap system, not a bigger single pack, is LAND's answer to range.

Charging: a wall socket, and the pack comes inside

Charge time is just battery size ÷ charger power. There is no DC fast charging here, the trick is that the CORE pack is tool-free removable.

LAND quotes roughly a 2-hour baseline full charge per pack from a standard outlet, which lines up with our formula (exact time depends on the charger and pack size). There is no fast charging. The genuine trick is the tool-free CORE pack: carry it indoors to any wall socket or keep a spare charged and swap, worth far more for apartment riders than a "fast charge" badge would be.
